Family & Guests
Do my guests need tickets?
Yes. All guests are required to have a ticket for the ceremony, including children that require a seat. Digital tickets will be sent via email, 4 guests per graduate.
Will there be special seating for those with disabilities?
Yes, if you have previously requested special seating. If you have already completed the graduation ceremony survey and did not request special seating, please email studentsvcs@maufl.edu. The last day to provide any changes will be June 30th, 2023.
Where can my family stay while in town for the ceremony?
Can my family take pictures during the ceremony?
Yes. Family members may take photos from their seats. For safety reasons, no one other than MAU staff will be allowed in the aisles during the ceremony. Please make sure you communicate this information to your family and friends to avoid disappointments.
The university will provide a professional photographer for the complete graduation ceremony, if interested in purchasing Graduate Portraits the photographer will be taking photos Thursday, July 14th, 2023, between 4pm-8pm by appointment on campus.
Please contact studentsvcs@maufl.edu to schedule your photography appointment. We will provide the cap and gown for the pictures.
Ceremony
Will there be graduation practice before the ceremony?
No. Once you arrive to line up, you will be given details on what you will be asked to do.
How long is the graduation ceremony?
Usually the ceremony lasts two (2) hours.
Can participants leave the ceremony early?
No. All participants are expected to be at the ceremony for its duration.
Is there a reception after the ceremony?
No reception after the ceremony.
General
Do I need a cap and gown to participate in graduation?
Yes. All participants are required to wear a cap and gown.

Can I use a cap and gown that I already have?
No. Different cap and gowns will not be acceptable. However if you have one from a recent MAU commencement ceremony, then you may use the same one.
At what time should I arrive?
All participants (graduates) must arrive by 3:30 p.m. at the Grand Doral I dressed in graduation attire to check in, graduates will be escorted to the staging area. The graduation class picture will be at 5:15 pm.
At 4:55 p.m. all graduates will be lined up ready to enter the graduation venue for the start of graduation.
Grand Doral, I will be open for guests at 4:40 p.m. Guests that arrive earlier can wait in the hotel Lobby. The ceremony begins promptly at 5:00 pm
Are lockers available at the Grand Doral Ballroom?
No. We ask that all students give personal belongings to family or friends attending the ceremony or leave them at home.
Do I need to bring anything to sign in?
Yes. We ask that faculty and graduates participating in the graduation ceremony bring their MAU ID to sign in.
Line up and Procession
Undergraduates should sign in at the Magnolia room and graduates in the Jacaranda room. Then, all graduates will be lined up and will be seated in the front rows in the reception. Faculty should sign in at the Grand Doral Ballroom, then all faculty members will be lined up and seated in the reception.
When should I expect to get my diploma and free official transcript?
Your diploma and free official transcript will be conferred once your academic requirements and financial obligations are satisfied. We encourage you to pick it up on campus before graduation, contact Student Services at 786-331-1000 Ext #203 or studentsvcs@maufl.edu.
Or you can pick it up after the commencement ceremony at the Jacaranda Room.
