President’s Message: Celebrating our successes, looking to the future
As we begin 2022 and almost two years of the pandemic, I know that Millennia Atlantic University (MAU) is better prepared for any obstacles that may come ahead. On behalf of myself and the Board of Directors, I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for a successful year.
Your diligence and commitment allowed us to return safely to our campus and classrooms. Even with so many challenges in front of us, we adapted and were able to experience an almost normal Fall 2021 semester despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Our students enjoyed returning to face-to-face learning as well as other campus traditions such as Orientation, Career Fairs, and Commencement.
In so many ways, the challenges of 2021 inspired several key campus and academic initiatives that I am pleased to include:
- MAU’s Soaring to 2025 Strategic Plan- is a blueprint that builds upon important initiatives from the University’s mission and vision that focuses on student success, financial sustainability, enrollment management, and academic improvements.
- MAU’s Tuition and Fee restructuring plan with the removal of individual fees.
- Brighter, more efficient lighting in the campus parking lot for the safety of the MAU community.
- Before the start of the Spring 2022 semester, we installed new equipment in all the classrooms and library.
- We Upgraded the campus WI-FI system and access points for increased connectivity and performance. The new WI-FI upgrades will allow the faculty, staff, and students to access the internet from outside the MAU Park and the student balcony.
- Most of the University’s credit courses are now part of the Statewide Course Numbering System (FLCCNS). This common numbering system is used by all public postsecondary institutions in Florida and by participating non-public institutions. The primary purpose of this system is to facilitate the transfer of courses between participating institutions.
I am optimistic that 2022 will be a defining year for Millennia Atlantic University, especially with the shared vision emerging from our Soaring 2025 Strategic plan. The following improvement strategies for 2022 include:
- MAU’s new online master’s program in Human Resource management launches in Spring 2022.
- MAU’s new Alumni Association and website launch for Spring 2022, with new Board of Directors and President
- MAU Alumni Association Gala is scheduled for mid-March 2022 at the Doral Intercontinental Hotel. Gala sponsorships and donations raise funds for need-based scholarships that help provide quality education to deserving students.
- The academic department will continue to improve the University’s educational and degree program offerings.
- Outreach to develop partnerships, collaborations, and dialogue with higher-learning institutions in Latin America, such as UNICIENCIA Bucaramanga in Colombia and UNITEC in Valencia, Venezuela
I want to close by saying thank you for your continued support of Millennia Atlantic University and your dedication to upholding our University values. Our incredible students often inspire me with their perseverance and commitment to their academic journey, especially during the pandemic. It makes me proud to be a soaring Macaw!
I wish everyone a prosperous new year!
Yours Truly,
Aristides Maza Duerto, PhD
