“A Latin Night at Doral” will raise funds for scholarships and programming

Doral, Fla. — Doral City Councilman Pete Cabrera will be the featured speaker at the upcoming MAU Alumni Association Golden Gala. The event – with a “Latin Night at Doral” theme – will raise money for the non-profit alumni association’s scholarship fund and additional student and community programming. The gala is scheduled for Saturday, March 12 at the InterContinental Hotel, beginning at 6 p.m.

Councilman Cabrera left his native Cuba in 1963 and has lived in Doral since 1988. He started his first import-export business at the age of 21. He has more than 35 years of experience as an employee benefits and business consultant, and for more than 20 years he has shared his expertise as a keynote speaker on teamwork and business management.

“Millennia Atlantic University equips its alumni to succeed in their business pursuits on a global scale,” said Cabrera, who was Doral’s founding Vice Mayor from 2003-2008. “Learning is a lifelong pursuit, and I am pleased to be part of an event that supports the aspirations of students from around the world, who are planting the seeds of their dreams here in Doral while studying at MAU.”

Cabrera is well-known for his commitment to civic causes. A founding member of the City of Doral, he is the longest serving member of the city council. He has served on numerous community and church boards, was a founding member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and has been appointed to multiple Miami-Dade Public Schools committees.

“My community is very important to me,” explained Cabrera, who is married to Marivi and has two adult children, Mari and Pete, his stepdaughter Arantxa, and four grandchildren. “I appreciate the contributions Millennia Atlantic University makes to the fabric of that community. I am honored to have been asked to speak at the alumni association’s first annual gala. I look forward to seeing many familiar faces in the crowd who I know will join me in supporting the scholarship fund.”

Sponsors for the Golden Gala include TBB International Bank and the Doral Contemporary Art Museum. The MAU Alumni Association is a 501c non-profit organization, making ticket purchases and sponsorships tax deductible.

Single tickets are $200 each, with a table of 10 available for $1900. There are multiple tiers of sponsorships opportunities as well.
