Alert 1: Subtropical storm Nicole

Millennia Atlantic University (MAU) is closely monitoring subtropical storm Nicole, which formed earlier today in the Atlantic and is forecasted to approach Florida’s east coast later this week.

The National Hurricane Center placed Miami Dade County under a tropical storm watch. Furthermore, a hurricane watch has been placed under Broward County and from the Volusia/Brevard county line to Hallandale Beach.

Subtropical storm Nicole is expected to bring heavy rainfall and damaging winds this week.

At the moment, MAU classes and operations remain as scheduled till further notice.

The University has developed emergency procedures in case of an emergency. Should an emergency exist, the University will inform our community through our social media accounts (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) and by posting information on the MAU Alert page on our website.

To ensure everyone’s safety, our offices must have your most recent and accurate personal contact information. Students may check their personal information in the MAU student portal, and if you need to update your personal information, such as email or address, please contact our Student Services Department. Faculty and staff should verify and update personal information through the TriNet self-service portal.

Be aware that preparation and awareness are key, and it’s advised to start prepping your emergency kit now. If you need help with what to include in your emergency kit, please follow the guidelines provided by Miami-Dade County’s 2022 Official Hurricane Readiness Guide.

Remember to be prepared and ready because it only takes one storm to disrupt or endanger our lives.

Your President,

Dr. Aristides Maza Duerto
