8-11-23 AVE MARIA, Fla.- Our Men's Macaw Soccer Team faced for the first time in school history the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University. The Macaw men's soccer team could not overcome an AM surge in the games 90 minutes of Friday's evening's contest, and fell 4-2 to theĀ  Gyrenes at Gyrene Field in Ave Maria. The defeat was MAU's first of the season. The game was characteristically high-scoring, the match started with the teams trading goals in the opening 15 minutes. AM was set up with an own goal from Mario Meza(MAU) and than a penalty kick in the 16 minute, and AM converted from the spot to give the Gyrenes a 2-1 lead going into the half time break. MAU's answer came in the ninth minute of the first half, when Juan Calabrese scored a header for his first goal of the season, thanks to an assist from Martin Chavez, the first of his MAU's career. The second goal came by Noah Zarlenga as he scaped on a one v one vs the AM goalkeeper as he converted his first MAU goal for the season. Ave Maria took control of the match after 28 minutes into the second half, when the game was tied up 2-2, by scoring twice to take a lead they would not relinquish. That 4-2 margin would hold for the final fifteen-plus minutes of the second half. Macaw's Men's soccer team is back out on the field Thursday August 17 vs the Lions of Florida Memorial University.       8-17-23 MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Our Men's Macaw Soccer Team faced for the first time in school history the Lions of Florida Memorial University. On their second game of the season the Millennia Atlantic University men's soccer team opened up with cross town rival and played on Thursday morning vs the Lions of Florida Memorial University at Dr. Lester Brown Park in Miami Gardens. The Macaws could not break through on the host Lions, and dropped a 1-0 decision in their first local match of 2023. Florida Memorial was completely in control in the first 45 minutes on Thursday, as the Lions held a 9-2 lead in shots during the first half. Millennia Atlantic was able to keep the Lions off the board despite this barrage for the whole first half, FMU finally broke through in the 30th minute of the second half, when Johan Godoy beat the MAU goalkeeper to give the Lions a 1-0 lead, which remained the score for the rest of the game in Miami Gardens. In the second half, MAU was a little more aggresive team. The Macaws outshot the Lions 9-7 in the final 45 minutes of the match, which included one major scoring opportunities. The best chance for MAU came in the 80th minute, when FMU fouled MArtin Chavez outside the box. Millennia Atlantic subsequent free kick taken by Martin Chavez was blocked, as was a follow-up, keeping FMU ahead for the remainder of the game. FMU outshot the Macaws 18-9 on Thursday, with the Lions also holding a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Florida Memorial also had more opportunities from the corner, as the Lions took six corner kicks to just one for Millennia Atlantic. Individually, Joaquin Villar was MAU's most active attacking midfielder, taking two shots. Agustin Wojcicki kept the Macaws in the match for most of the day, turning away nine FMU shots. Men's Macaw Soccer will travel next to play NCAA Division 2 powerhouse Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida on August 24 at 6pm.       MAU Men's Soccer Team Playing for the men's soccer team at Millennia Atlantic University (MAU) is an exhilarating and passionate experience, where you have the privilege of representing our institution on the field.
